Prancing horses and raging bulls graced this year’s Italian Concorso over looking Monterey Bay, California. Normally when you think of California, you are reminded by everyone that it’s always sunny. But that is not always true. When you live on the coast or have a beautiful concours show grace the Black Horse Golf Course, one would expect to have sunny skies. This year in the middle of August you found yourself with overcast skies and a jacket in hand as temperatures were in the middle 50’s all day long.

The weather didn’t stop the owners, vendors and spectators from driving, showing and viewing these spectacular automobiles. This year’s event hightlighted the new Ferrari F430, the Superamerica and the Maserati Gransport. Also returning was the Kruse Auction. So you could buy your own and show it next year! What made this year’s event extra special was saluting 40 years of the Lamborghini Muira. Oh that car never ages!

A beautiful selection of Ferrari’s were on hand this year including Maserati and Alfa Romeo. But lets not forget the likes of De Tomaso and Lamborghini. The golf course dripped with Italian flair, not with just the cars but with motorcycles and fine food!

I love a hardcore concour like Pebble Beach, but what makes this such a fun event is that everyone one who drives a fine Italian automobile is invited. As long as the car is clean and pleasing to the eye, it’s accepted onto the groomed lawn overlooking the bay. No judging here. Just fine Italian works of art that are driven home at the end of the day.

My favorite at the show? Well that would be a tough one. But vintage Ferrari’s is what gets my tastebuds salivating uncontrollably. Like the metallic brown Ferrari Lusso…and the red one too! I remember my dad taking my brother and I to Ferrari of Atlanta when we were kids and looking at a 1969 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2…in metallic ice green with black interior. Price? A mere $13,000 and it was mint! Well, dad passed but he was very interested! Now, they command your mortgage and first born…sorry kid it was nice knowing you! Anyway, vintage gets me every time. Now I would like to see a new Ferrari F430 with Borrani wire wheels.

This year’s show was a great success. It is held on Friday before the Pebble Beach gathering so make plans to attend it next year. You won’t be sorry. I mean, where else can you see Ferrari 275’s in every color passing you on the streets of Monterey? Only in your dreams…
