Ford isn’t revealing much about its plans for introductions at the upcoming NAIAS 2006, but the
company’s top designer threw out some intriguing hints in Frankfurt.
J Mays, Ford’s group vice president of design and chief creative officer, said Ford’s worldwide unveilings at the
NAIAS 2006 will further indicate the automaker’s plans for the future.
“The Detroit show will bring another very good production vehicle on the Ford stand. It is probably
even more evocative than the Fusion. It’ll be the next step in cementing in your mind and others’ minds that
we have a design direction and a plan. It’s not a conservative vehicle, but it’s a really good looking
vehicle.”
Mays said Ford’s luxury Lincoln division also will unveil to the world a new production vehicle that is an important step in Lincoln’s revival. “For the most part, we’re letting our production cars do the talking,” Mays said.
Still, he added, “We’ve got the usual cavalcade of concepts as well. Some of them will hint at our future direction. Some will be technology studies. Some will be maintaining leadership in certain segments.”
