News from Around the Web: Forget the Monster Miata, Hot Rod Builds an LS7 Powered Solstice!
Zerin Dube | April 18, 2006
The good ole fashioned practice of taking the biggest engine you can find, and shoving it into a little bitty car is still alive and well in the HOT ROD Magazine garages. This time, Hot Rod Magazine has decided to put a hopped up LS7 (Read: C6 Z06 Engine) and all the goodies into a Pontiac Solstice. This goes far beyond what Mallett has done with their Solstice conversion, and includes an upgraded transmission and suspension in the mix.

michael | June 26, 2007why would you even bother doing that. to have a piece of crap car that can beat the vette isn’t right. the vette is americas car. it is like trying to put money into a freakin honda.
I believe that as a fan of raw power mixed
Thomas Horgan (BMW Driver) | July 17, 2007I believe that as a fan of raw power mixed with comfort and visual appearance that this is probably the best thing that could happen to this roadster. Contrary to what the gentlemen before me have said, it my belief that the corvette ( first model being a prime example) was intended to be somewhat of a grandpa’s day out car and that GM should consider making the LS7 / Solstice combo a future option.
There's no point in this swap unless you're a chick
Seth Joness | September 4, 2007There’s no point in this swap unless you’re a chick with a whole lot of money. Both the Solstice and the Z06 weigh around 3200 lbs. So when you take out the Solstice’s turbo 4 cylinder and put in a 7 liter V8, you are going to be adding a couple hundred pounds, making it not as fast as the stock Z06. So really unless you’re a flamer who wants your girly Solstice to actually be fast, WHAT IS THE POINT?
the hot rod solstice is a monster. anybody who thinks
will | September 20, 2007the hot rod solstice is a monster. anybody who thinks it sucks is wrong. the thing is faster than everything from a ZO6 to an enzo. If you think thats stupid, your just not a car guy.
S.U.C.K.S. For given weight advantage, I'll keep the high
Joe | November 25, 2007S.U.C.K.S. For given weight advantage, I’ll keep the high speed stability of a longer wheelbase and wider stance over that drift machine any day. c5/c6 chassis is WAY more capable of putting big power to the ground. Put the same upgrade money into a vette and see what kind of monster you have.
Corvette engines have always been a popular swap in anything
Ben_DE | July 14, 2008Corvette engines have always been a popular swap in anything from mazdas to volvos. If you don’t like it stop whining. You’re just jealous that you couldn’t do it yourself. I agree as will said that anyone who thinks engine swaps such as this are stupid is not a real enthusiast. And who cares if it’s a drift machine. Have you even drifted before!?!?!? It’s funner than any other racing I’ve done in my day, and that’s why I’m addicted to it. Really, this is an amazing swap, an amazing car. It combines an outstanding engine with an amazing an uniquely designed car to form one of the best roadsters I’ve ever seen, and would take even over the corvette. Everyone knows the corvette has become only a cliche car, and most people looking to get a corvette no longer really want a corvette but something like it. I say drop the LS7 in this car as a stock option and GM will make a lot of enthusiasts all the more happy.
