As I pulled onto my street in my latest driving assignment, the 2007 Chevy Tahoe, I spotted the neighborhood wives’ club sitting outside, carefully watching over their playing children. I drove past them on the way to my house, and watched the reactions on their faces, as I knew the new Tahoe would make them look twice. In almost Olympic synchronized precision, their heads turned and followed the Tahoe until it was parked in my driveway. Before I could even gather my road warrior travel accessories from the Tahoe and make my way into my house, I was mauled by four moms that all wanted a closer look at it. The moms crawled through every inch of the Tahoe, all the while uttering “ooohs” and “ahhs” as they pushed buttons and checked out various features of the vehicle. After this twenty minute inspection, the moms were satisfied, and the Tahoe got the unanimous seal of approval. They had all decided they wanted one, and would be bringing their husbands over later to show them the Tahoe. I thought they were kidding, but my night was constantly interrupted by the wives’ club dragging their husbands over in succession to get a first-hand look at all the things the new Tahoe offered. This might have been a nuisance for me that night, but for the moms of America, this was a vehicle to get VERY excited about. This level of excitement is exactly the reaction that General Motors is banking on.

News from Around the Web: Forget the Monster Miata, Hot Rod Builds an LS7 Powered Solstice!

The good ole fashioned practice of taking the biggest engine you can find, and shoving it into a little bitty car is still alive and well in the HOT ROD Magazine garages. This time, Hot Rod Magazine has decided to put a hopped up LS7 (Read: C6 Z06 Engine) and all the goodies into a Pontiac Solstice. This goes far beyond what Mallett has done with their Solstice conversion, and includes an upgraded transmission and suspension in the mix.

Volkswagen Announces Passat R GT Inspired Package

Photos used with permission from Vortex Media Group

NEW YORK CITY – At the New York International Auto Show, Volkswagen of America, Inc., will feature a Passat equipped with an appearance package inspired by the Passat R GT that was shown at the Specialty Equipment Market Association’s (SEMA) annual exhibition in November 2005. Although the vehicle was a concept, rave reviews from fans prompted Volkswagen to offer the package as an option on new Passats.

The appearance package creates a racy and aggressive look for the Passat with front and rear skirts with color contrasting elements, a honeycomb-designed grille, side sill kit, a harmonically integrated tailgate lip, oval-shaped tail pipe trim and 18-inch titanium colored alloy wheels, wrapped with 235/45R18 high-performance summer Pirelli tires. The vehicle’s stance is also lowered with the addition of performance lowering springs.

Editors Note: The package will be a port installed option. $4,500 seems expensive, but if you add up the cost of a full high quality body kit + suspension + wheels + tires + paint, you will be close to $4,500 in no time. This seems like a hell of a deal, and makes the car look killer. The Body Kit will also be sold seperately, with pricing to be announced at a later date. This package was put together as part of VW’s Moonraker project, a team of VW employees that came here to study US market needs and desires. These are the same people that came up with the Volkswagen GX3, but this time actually came up with something practical. My only fear… VW shows will be flooded with 20 of these cars all lined up, and will lose some of the exclusivity. Either way, its all money in the bank for VW.

News from Around the Web: First E92 BMW 335i Coupe Shots Fully Undisguised!

E90 335i Coupe

Someone with a keen eye snapped some of the first shots of a naked BMW 335i on a freight pallet at an unknown European Airport. The 335i is powered by BMW’s new N53 twin-turbo inline-six, making 306 horsepower and a healthy 295lb/ft of torque. While I don’t know if the looks are enough to sell me on one, these initial photos make the coupe look significantly better than the sedan. Now, who is going to be the first company with a performance chip for this car? The new 335i could be the next big European performance bargain. Lets hope they learned from the mistakes Audi made with the B5 S4.
