It took 5 long days, hundreds of miles and more caffeine than one wants to admit to, but after days of watching a commercial photo shoot from afar, our photographer finally got a chance to photograph the all-new 2007 Chevrolet Silverado as it sprinted out of a car carrier and ran through a car wash. The camera-ready Crew-Cab was decked out in the Z71 off-road package, and wearing brochure-red paint.
Riding on the GMT900 platform, the Silverado’s introduction comes after that of the full-size SUVs, and up until this moment – has been very well hidden behind miles of black vinyl. Although this was originally scheduled to arrive as a 2008 model, Chevrolet has been working at a fast pace and the Silverado will likely debut this fall, with production starting as early as October. And, as one can clearly see, this is no Tahoe clone, but a unique look including stacked headlamps, which separate the trucks from the SUVs.
We’re a bit surprised that the Silverado doesn’t have some of the signature styling from the 2003 Cheyenne Concept – such as the wraparound glass at the back of the cab, yet we think consumers will be pleasantly surprised with both the styling and car-like refinement that the Silverado is said to have. And, equipment-wise, this Silverado is equipped with a roof-rack and back-up sensors.
Note: No, that isn’t unsightly panel gap in the first photo…the hood was indeed popped up just a bit.

It seriously looks like a bloated Colorado. Sad.
It’s like the nissan titan and chevy colorado mix …so bad
Looks like a gosh-dam Nissan Titan. What the heck? I dont like the looks of the Titan, so I’ll let everyone guess as to what I feel about the looks of this. Missed the mark again GM. Thank goodness they at least got the Camaro right… now they just have to produce it!
Fakes. Open in Photoshop and zoom in real close on the Silverado badges. Heavy pixelation.
I love it. Im suprised it looks so different than the 2006. At first I doubted that GM could pull it off.
That’s a horrible looking excuse for a truck. I don’t care how well it may drive, it looks like a cross between a Honda Ridgeline and a Nissan Titan, nothing like the Silverado toughness we’ve grown to love. Chevy’s design team should be fired. I’ll never buy one.
Oh… my… God… I thought pickups were supposed to look and perform like pickups? All I see is a car with 4 door as a bed, Z71 *OFF ROAD* um what? Highway tires and the right height of most 2 WHEEL DRIVE pickups does not seem like much of an offroad package? Oh well I will let GM dig themselves and even bigger hole and laugh as I pass them in my 06 Cummins.
HI:
Very disapointed as my 03 looks almost the same.I was exspected more like the cheyenne concept. to bad ,no new truck for me.,.;;
I love it! At 1st I was shocked but is grew on me fast. I had my expectations high, I thought something like the Tahoe, but I’m not dissapointed.
It looks like a chevy. why do people expect some life changing design. It is better looking than a F150 or Ram and it is what is under the hood that matters the most.
Who is designing chevy’s new line of vehicles? Seriously? No wonder GM is having issues, I own a 2001 silverado and an in the market for a new truck. In NO WAY would I think about buying one of these, same as stated above ^ it sits to low, has a very poor choice for “off road” tires just plain UGLY front end. And is that a roof rack? It looks like a cross between a colorado and a nissan titan… Chevrolet needs to make some major changes in there styling and enginering department before I consider buying another. As for right now I am leaning towards a F150 FX4 x-cab.
Sorry Chevrolet, -Justin
I was hoping for a real complete redesign. It looks like another refreshening.Looks like it was built two years ago.Still love the looks of the new Rams and F150’s ,Titan and Frontier better. This will NOT, I repeat NOT help Gm in the long run.
I like it, Like all vehicles, I think one needs to wait until they see it in person before making final judgements.
I luv it ! Great looking truck. Styling reminds me of the old C/K pick-up’s. I’ll buy one !!
This is god-awful. If this goes to production, it will kill all of the momentum the Tahoe and Suburban have generated. There has been more talk of big dealer incentives coming down the pipe…they will have to literally give this away.
i cannot stress my level of dissapointment. the page loaded and after i realized that that was not a photoshoped pic im thinkin of jumping off a bridge. i think is the vehicle that will keep me from buying another GM vehicle. they are that stupidest automaker ever
loooks fake
What a total let down ! ! ! ! I have an 03 Silverado and love it, and have been anxiously waiting for the NEW 07 body style to come out thinking that I would really want one. (now what) What is going on at GM with their design team, seems like they are totally out of touch with what people want ! ! ! ! ! ! Better put the blackwraps back on it.
From the front and the side view that is the best looking pickup I have seen. From the back it looks a little bit like a Colorado, so it looks a little cheap; but still easily kicks the crap out of Dodge, the imports, and as well as it leaps ahead of the F150.
its not photoshoped you fools.
once again all the reason for me to buy the new tundra when it comes out.
This is the ugliest piece of crap i have ever seen. my 2002 silvy looks better then that, and a 2006 silvy looks way better than that.
Whoever designed this should be fired, and burned at the stake. Rediculus, that isnt a truck thats an embarassment. Way to go GM, u really dropped the ball on this one. Get some new designers.
Front end looks really nice. Side and back views really expose the cheesy rear quarter pannels. Almost looks like a cross between a fleetside and stepside to me…reminds me of the truck Honda has out.
Someone please tell me that those aren’t Z71 stickers indicating that this is a 4WD – I think my girlfriends Jetta rides higher than this truck.
I’M REALLY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE NEW DESIGN. IT REALLY DOES LOOK LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN A TITAN AND A COLORADO. I’VE BEEN HOLDING OFF BUYING A NEW TRUCK UNTIL I SAW THE NEW CHEVY’S, AND NOW I CAN CROSS THIS OFF THE LIST. IT FITS PREFECT IN THE CALIF. SURFING CROWD, BUT I CAN’T SEE ME HAULING AN ELK OUT THE RUGGED IDAHO BACK COUNTRY!! THE ONLY SAVING GRACE MAY BE THE 2500 H.D.’S. I HOPE THEY AT LEAST RESEMBLE A “TRUCK”. I WILL BE LOOKING AT THE NEW TUNDRA, AND THE SUPERDUTY IN THE SPRING OF 07.. CONGRATULATION G.M. YOU JUST PUT THE LAST NAIL IN THE COFFIN…
TERRIBLE. And GM is pinning their future on this tonka toy? GOOD LUCK GM shareholers.
Kicks so much tail, you people are on crack. The Step bars make it look like it is low ridder, if I know Chevy, and I think I do, the clearance will be better than Ford or Dodge. If you are looking at a Tundra or Tittan, go back to Japan and put your Camary up on shocks and drive it around. Seriously, this is one sharp truck. Hope it is the new Silverado. Kudos GM/Chevrolet.
Oh! It looks so manly. Does this brute come in pink?
Just wait till the guys at the dance studio see me in this.
CULLEY
This truck will sell fine. Chevy has to play to the conservative group of people that buy Chevy trucks. I will have to see the truck on the road before I decide what I think But is a life long GM truck owner I would be happy to drive the new truck.
I can not wait to see the design of the new GMC Sierra. I expect it to be a lot more aggressive than the Chevy.
Man u people kill me. The truck looks great and refined, respect to GM. I think most of u peeps are undercover import owners so stop the bs. This is just the first of many Silverado versions to be released. Not all of them will even look exactly like this Z71 truck. Really like the front end of this model… very nice. And the broad shoulders are impressive.
GREAT WORK CHEVY and GM! LETS SEE THE OTHER MODELS!
I THINK THIS TRUCK LICKS IT LOOKS LIKE A GIRL TRUCK I SELL CHEVYS FOR A LIVING AND I AM REALLY SCARED OF WHAT THIS BABY TRUCK WILL DO TO MY INCOME. IF THEY WERE HAVING SUCH A HARD TIME DESIGNING THIS TRUCK THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST COPPIED THE TAHOE AND SUBURBAN INSTEAD OF INJECTING THE COLORADO WITH ROIDS(LIKE BONDS) AND CALLING IT A SILVERADO. WAY TO GO GM ITS NOT YOUR STORES THAT CANT SELL TRUCKS ITS YOUR LAIM ASS DESIGN TEAM THAT MAKES THEM UNSELLABLE. I GUESS IF YOU LIKE FEMALE TRUCKS THIS IS IT FOR YOU.
Ive driven chevy trucks all my life but GM has lost a lot of respect theese last few years. Recall after Recall and now this horrible excuse for a new model and they wonder why so many people are buying foreign trucks!
hey BUBBA, i also sell GM trucks for a living and have not experienced a decrease in my paycheck even with the old, oudated, stale GM pickup line that we have had for years now. This new truck, although maybe not your taste, has a lot more going for it under the hood than the competition – and as any REAL salesperson will tell you, that is what is really important.
Perhaps its not GM’s “laim ass” design team that is hurting your paycheck but your inability to spell or convey a coherent thought.
i.e – “laim” is spelled lame; “coppied” is spelled copied; insert many commas anywhere.
I don’t know what the people here are talking about but this is about as “wimpish” and pathetic a pick up truck I’ve ever seen. NO manhood characteristics at all. Low to the ground and refines as if it’s meant to be driven at a prom. Man, no wonder why GM is “on the ropes” market share-wise. They deserve it.
Guys! First off, the new silverado may not be the best looking truck out there to some people. But that’s not what you buy a truck for. You buy one for performance, reliability, durability, features, and function, and comfort. It’s getting a new interior, making it pretty much the cadillac of trucks. Can’t wait to see what the new sierra denali will look like. Again, sure it may be ugly to some people, but with the power this truck’s going to get, that won’t matter. You could just pull up to some f-150 or dodge ram, and say “Hey! my truck may not be the best looking thing out there, but it’ll still kick your truck’s ASS!” You just pull up to someone at a stoplight and just SMOKE ‘EM, just like Chevys have been doing for years.
I’m trying to become an Automotive designer, and work for GM. So, don’t woory guys, I’ll make sure the next silverado after this one will look awesome.
In my opinion, GM should have used more styling cues from the 07 tahoe and suburban.
Does anyone notice that big glob of red paint on the truck’s grille?
Thats a reflection of the red paint you are seeing, not a glob of paint on the grill.
Maybe it’ll look better as a regular cab. Half ton trucks usually do.
Administrator,
Is it a reflection from another vehicle, or the truck?
I can’t stand it. It looks like that goofy Explorer Sport Trac. Nothing about if flows.
I have an old 77 shortbed K series and I can tell you that these new trucks are not trucks. Cars with truck bodies and will never even come close to be considered tough in my book. What are people who need a real 4×4 work truck using now a days? I am a die hard Chevy guy but I will stick with the dependable old school. That is what the company needs to get back to “roots”
Most posts here are negative and deservingly so. Americans are into STYLE and I do NOT believe for a second that one buys for performance, reliability, durability, features, function, and comfort as much as they’re into LOOKS. Just ask any plastic surgeon. Sounds like some of these posts are coming from those at GM whose rear ends are “on the line” if this truck bombs.
Did’nt like it the first time I saw it. This is the 3rd time ive viewed it, and now I love it. Currently have a 2000 silverado. I should be arrested for abuse on this truck, yet its still running like a champ at 240,000 miles. Cant wait to buy this one!
I am a fan of the new front end. But from there on back it does look a little cheap or gimicky. The fender flares on the bed of the truck does’t seem to flow with the rest of the truck.Who know’s trucks do grow on you over the years, Remember when Dodge Redesigned the Ram!
I work in the plant that will be building this and had some of the same opinions when I first saw it. It does grow on ya – and all in all I think we have a winner. The interior is top notch and it still feels like a chevie when you drive. Tons of performance and guts what in my opinion has always separated the rest from GM. Before you say NO take one for a drive in the fall and 9 out of 10 of ya will agree. Can’t judge a book by its cover untill you see whats under the sheets!
Ugly, terrible, and disappointing. All this anticipation over the ‘08 model, and this is it? It looks like this is another GM product designed by a committee – one that couldn’t agree on much. Or maybe one that depended too heavily on “market research”…what a joke. This thing looks like a patchwork of truck bodies fastened together and affixed a bowtie badge. It doesn’t look like they could have done much worse. I could have bought a new 06 Silverado 4×4 a few months ago at a great price….and now I wish I had. This thing makes me want to get a Ford or Dodge next time. If anyone at GM is reading this, what happened to the use of COMMON SENSE in designing vehicles?
The proportions look a bit off to me, but I suppose I’d still by it. Not many of the newer trucks look any better anyway….
As for the “photoshopping” of the pic. Yes, the badges have been added! There is definate cut-and-pasting of the bow-tie on the rear, the Z71 sticker, and the Silverado badge. Open the pics in any editor, and zoom in a bit. It’s easy to spot. Not to say this isn’t what the new truck will look like, but the pic has certainly been altered. Just my $0.02…..
Pictures probably don’t do the truck justice. Just wait till you see it with your own eyes. I think the tube bars make the truck look lower then what it really is. I do see some ques from Nissan and the Colarado but again I think I will reserve my judgment untill I see it here at the dealership. I’m sure there will be several trim levels available. So far I like it.
Although I probably don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m quite sure, and I hope that this is the case, the reason those fender whells are so huge is because it’s a 4wd truck. Bigger wheel whells mean BIGGER tires. Someone try photoshopping the picture to make it look like it has a lift with bigger tires, and trust me you’ll like it.
I agree, its clearly photoshopped. And why would they alter it unless it is fake? They did a good job though, fooled me at first.
