Pontiac Announces Solstice GXP Pricing

Detroit – At the height of the summer solstice, Pontiac today announced that the turbocharged 2007 Solstice GXP will carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $25,995, including a $600 destination charge. The 260-horsepower roadster arrives in Pontiac dealerships this fall.

Powered by GM’s new direct injection, turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec engine, the Solstice GXP adds a 47 percent boost of power to augment the road-gripping performance and seductive styling already available in the base model roadster.

“The passion customers have for the Solstice continues to amaze us and we have been sold out of the 2006 models for the past couple of months,” said Mark-Hans Richer, Pontiac marketing director. “There’s already a waiting list for the 2007 models, so we believe the GXP will only extend the Solstice’s position as the top-selling roadster in the U.S., proving that a domestic car can retake a segment previously dominated by imports.”

Model year to date through May, Pontiac has sold 15,145 Solstices, outselling the closest competitor in the segment by more than 2,600 units. Solstice remains one of the industry’s hottest selling cars, contributing to a 20 percent increase in Pontiac showroom traffic since the beginning of the year and double digit percent sales gains in key coastal markets.

The Peugeot 907 – a V12 GT coupé concept – is making its UK debut at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed over the first weekend in July. Powered by a 6.0-litre 500bhp V12 engine, the one-off carbon fibre concept is being demonstrated in the Supercar Run at approximately 1.20pm on Saturday and Sunday, 8 and 9 July*.

907 as a concept was created as the archetypal grand touring car – a two-seater coupé – and is thoroughly modern but with a classic twist. With a nod to the era of the great coachbuilders, this stunning coupé embodies one of the great engineering dreams of combining a large capacity engine within a classical shape, achieving a genuine synergy of advanced technology and motoring tradition. It also provided the first clue to the frontal style identity of the new 207 which has just gone on sale in the UK.

Audi fights for Le Mans victory with TDI Power

  • Le Mans début for the new Audi R10 TDI
  • The chance for Audi to write motorsport history
  • Six ‘old-hands’ drive a pair of Diesel sportscars
  • After 30,000km of testing and approximately 1,500 hours on the engine dynamometers, things get serious: AUDI AG fights for overall victory at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans (France) as the first ever automobile manufacturer with a diesel engine.

That this target is extremely ambitious but in no way unrealistic, was proven by Audi in March when the new R10 TDI won the 12-hour race at Sebring (USA) on its race début – an impressive demonstration of Audi TDI Power. And all this less than four months after the very first exploratory laps made by the revolutionary Diesel sportscar.

Performance, driving dynamics and lightweight construction in perfection: 400hp Exclusive, puristic special series of the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG

    Affalterbach, Jun 09, 2006

As the only eight-cylinder roadster in its segment the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG provides unique driving experience. The two-seater is now even more sporty: Mercedes AMG has developed an exclusive and distinctly puristic special series which sets new standards in driving dynamics. With the AMG 5.5-litre V8 engine enhanced to 294 kW/400 hp and 520 Newton metres, numerous lightweight construction components, carbon hardtop, 19-inch AMG forged wheels, AMG height-adjustable torsion sports suspension and AMG high-performance composite brake system the special SLK 55 AMG demonstrates even more convincingly its sports talent – and makes a good figure on any closed course.

Wide, stocky and low slung – the first impression already makes it clear that the SLK 55 AMG is something very special. The front of the car fascinates with the restyled AMG front apron with large air intakes which supply the additional transmission oil cooler and the high-performance steering gear oil cooler with sufficient fresh air. New side air outlets of black carbon ensure an effective flow through of the larger engine oil cooler. The front fenders which are now wider are made of the ultra-light carbon-fibre-reinforced-plastic (CRP) and have black out-lined air outlets.

Nissan Murano GT-C for Goodwood Festival of Speed

Nissan will be showing off in many ways at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed (7-9 July) from a race winning 350Z never seen before in Europe to a couple of new, speed themed concept cars making their international debuts. The company will also be making a bid for the title of fastest vehicle at the Festival … with a Nissan Primera.

Not one but two concepts are having their first ever showing at Goodwood this year. If the press and public approve, they could be available in the not so distant future.

Taking star position on Nissan’s stand is the Murano GT-C, standing for GT Concept. Nissan GB has taken its shapely crossover 4×4 and made it even more dramatic inside and out. Exterior brightwork has been given a new darker hue and all lights have been tinted to coordinate with the Kuro Black paintwork. The Murano’s standard 18″ alloy wheels have been changed for a new 22″, five-spoke design. And a raised roof spoiler finishes the purposeful look. Just as striking is the GT-C’s interior which has been retrimmed using British craftsmanship and a classic colour palette but with a modern slant.
