Spied!!! Mitsubishi Evo X Production Prototype

Zerin Dube | July 10, 2006

The spies at over at Priddy & Co. were fruitful on their hunt earlier today as they picked off what appears to be a prototype of the upcoming Mitsubishi Evo X. Details are slim right now, but we know that the Evo X will debut in the 2008 Model Year, and is based off the GS Platform also used on the current Dodge Caliber. Rumors are that this iteration of the Evo will feature more than 300 horsepower, and will be put on a diet resulting in a curb weight significantly less than that of the current Evo. We’ll keep you posted as more details surface on this next generation import hot rod.

Editors Note: This could also be a variation of the Ralliart model. Either way, the prototype is fairly true to the concept’s form.

Fun with GM’s Product Release Cycle: The GMC Acadia Breaks Cover

We love the randomness that is GM’s product release cycle. Although we know, thanks to the Freep, GM is pushing up the rollout of new vehicles, what made the PR folks over at the Ren Cen say “Hey, let’s…

Cobra | July 20, 2006

This stink were is the spoiler, that giant rear wing come one you have to put that giant wing back on or you done Mitsubishi. No one care for that wing you got on that concept just put the old on back to atleast show its a EVO

lithivm | July 25, 2006

I think it might be an evo due to the hood veltilation bumps…. you can see them on under that crappy cover. The lancer wouldn’t have those….

EJEvo | August 3, 2006

I agree with an earlier post - the absence of wheel well flares suggests this is simply a next gen Lancer and not the Evolution. As to another post that references the hood bulge seen under the wrap - that may either be there to throw off spy shot viewers, or may be an Evolution hood on the regular Lancer in order to create some confusion.

Nice Evo--but the headlights are kinda stupid.

Mazda 3???? What a moron. Anyone know how much this thing is suppose to weigh?? 300 hp and substantially lighter?? Sounds like a nasty lil SOB

the tail lights scream mazda three but clearly the front

dr.evol | October 18, 2006

the tail lights scream mazda three but clearly the front grill is an evo , the bumps on the hood are instruments for measuring enginge heat and g’s and crap like that, no spoiler because its too hard to hide and the older versions also had models without spoilers, but alas i miss the wing, i also thought the lancer was supposed to die, alos the IX was supposed to be the last of the lancer based evos,

Evo_pwns_you | December 7, 2006

I like the new Evo X. The spy shot is showing it wihtout the wing because DUH it’s being tested and they don’t want people to see it’s finished form yet. hence the coverings because people with cameras have been taking spy shots for decades and with the new wing it’ll give it away. Regardless of why some of you diss on it.. it will blow your doors off on your hondas and toyotas. (NSX and Supra exclised. it’ll keep up with those) Plus it looks better than the Impreza STI and WRX. Plus it’s a sedan which makes it practical in the utility sence that sedans are for putting more people or stuff in it than a small coupe. I can’t wait to see what owners will do with this new evo in their hands and who it’ll smoke.

EVO IX MR | December 9, 2006

The bigest tell here is the muffler. While it is clear from the widthe and shape of the buldges that those may not be hood scoops, the muffler clearly indicates that this is a “normal” car and not an EVO. The EVO would not be able to breath through that tiny pipe and that would affect any testing they were doing in a big way. This is claearly a mitsu as the logo is shown on the wheels. A new model Lancer or maybe even a Galant.

Another item that indicates loudly that this is probably not

EVO IX MR | December 9, 2006

Another item that indicates loudly that this is probably not the EVO X is the design of the rear view mirrors. They are too large for the EVO X (are any car that would consider aero dynamics or drag a significant design factor).

This is defianately not a design that would lend itself to the EVO X. This is a sport sedan for sure but definitively not the EVO X.

the thing, maybe, driving on the road, isn't anything

arichcartel | December 15, 2006

the thing, maybe, driving on the road, isn’t anything but some some workers messing around with old body parts while a 3rd grade class of kids does its best to cut up some paper and cover the thing.
the only thing that’s being tested here, is how many “Spy Shots,” are being taken, and where they’re coming from.
They’re also showing how “we” can drive a big wheel around, and create more talk about, “it’s the evo X.”

i’ve lived around detroit long enoughto know all the “stuff” interns do wth cars. the new saleen plant is directly accross the street from our office (suberbs). if you saw all of the junk that drives out of there, you’d the naxr saleen is actually going to be a first generation hummer (that must have some new “black projuct” engine because it has three large pipes extending 10ft in the air)… maybe it has a jet enginee… or maybe one of the pipes is a periscope… i wish they didn’t have all that sandpaper covering the “car” (…it must have some special new paint to be wrapped in sandpaper…).

look, if u want to think that old mixture of body parts and paper is the “X,” fine. and i thought people who started taking the “x-files” as truth were crazy.

sorry for the spelling

arichcartel | December 15, 2006

sorry for the spelling

they'er not testing the white cardboard over the hood either

arichcartel | December 15, 2006

they’er not testing the white cardboard over the hood either (that strangely has its own ties… wouldn’t want that cardboard box to move at high speeds. the driver, clearing testing speed/G’s/cornering, decided to do it with one hand on the wheel, a polo shirt, and a “helmet” that is secretely made to look like a baseball hat. wait, he chose the X with a normal seatbelt.–he must not want to get thrown arond… which explains his right hand on a stick or the cup holder to support himself.

for real, the only thing being tested in whatever car is in the “spy pic,” is the analog cell phone system. or is that a GPS antenna (maybe a new spoiler)!?

Evo X is best yet… test drove one already and its SICK!!!!! thing is freaking faster than the evo 9

I'm not going to comment on the spy pics above

wraith | April 13, 2007

I’m not going to comment on the spy pics above - enough said already…

I’ve seen the most recent published ‘non covered’ pics and IMHO it is indeed the best looking Evo yet - so it’s lost the boy racer and ricey looks - I say it’s about time and finally it appeals to a more mature class of drivers !

Hi EvoCrazy
May I ask, how is it you’ve been able to test drive one already, are you an industry insider, are you able to elaborate more on it’s specs - power, weight, pricing etc.

Fantastic to hear it’s performance is better than the previous model.

Cheers.
