Exposed! 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 Refresh
2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8
With just a few weeks to go before the big show kicks off in Detroit, our spy friends at BP & Co. caught Dodge with their proverbial pants down today with these shots of an undisguised 2008 Magnum SRT8. At first glance, one can immediately notice the much more aggressive front end. Dodge has downsized the grill intakes, and added a lower fascia reminiscent of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8. Also new is the hood scoop, which is currently exclusive to the Charger. Though we don’t have any shots of the rear end, we hear that the taillights are updated as well.
There aren’t many details on the engineering side of the fence, but we do know that SOP is August 2007 and that the interior has been updated (hopefully for the better). The 425hp, 6.1L HEMI engine remains unchanged, though the 5-speed AutoStick transmission programming has been tweaked and improved for faster and smoother shifts.
We aren’t 100% sure that this facelifted Magnum will debut in Detroit, but rest assure that we will be seeing it at one of the major auto shows this season. With the design disaster of the Sebring and Compass still fresh on our minds, we’re glad to see that the Chrysler Group hasn’t gone completely soft on us.

(1) Someone pointed out recently on this Weblog that the Chicago Auto Show is traditionally where new Dodge products are shown, and that Detroit is reserved for Chrysler and Jeep; (2) The new Magnum grill looks good to me; (3) We can all agree on the hoped-for improvements to the interior, and we can also hope and pray that ‘88 freshenings of the 300 and Charger are unveiled in 2007 and include:(a) appearance/ID changes to front and rear fascias which give them a more up-to-date look:(b)sufficient interior upgrades to both trim and switchgear as to bring forth from reviewers phrases like “much improved over the original”, and “now equal or better than similarly priced cards from the U.S., as wellas Europe and Asia;.”(c) tweaks to power trains and running gear that result in noticeable refinement. Examples: the Hemi should get a six-speed A/T (a manual is too much to hope for) and the both sixes should be upgraded to five-speeds; (d) the latest gadgets that first made their appearance in the ‘07 Sebring should of course find their way into everything on the LX platform.
Looks very nice…..very nice. One of the sweetest cars on the road got a little bit sweeter.
Now, make a similar improvement to the front of the Dakota and install the Hemi with MDS so I can buy a truck like I want!

I have one of the first SRT8’s to hit the West Coast and I love it. I added a functional scooped hood, exhaust & ots of othe stuff immediately. It is one great car and I reccommend the 2008 pictured above to anyone that want’s a “unique” ride with amazing power.

The new SRT-8 gives me a boner.
I like the scoop, but the grill looks too much like a Jeep. I think the current version is more agressive and stans out in the crowd. Performance tweeks would be better than cosmetic. My SRT8 draws a crowd all of the time. I only hope Dodge does not mess with success.
I have had the time to review the spy shots of the revised Magnum and submit the following: 1. the grill does not look better it looks flattened and out of scale for the car. All it does now is allow for a front plate without blocking any of either grill. The lower grill does not look as good with the Mustangish slant of the sides, it also does not “flow” in design to the sides of the upper grill. The scoop looks great, the revised headlights look flattened also. The removal of the side trim looks good but in todays parking situations it will not help keep the sides undamaged. If the interior is upgraded, fine but dont yell when they add to the base price. The car as produced is a performer, a looker and some may say “softer tirm on the inside, with more expensive details” will add to the car. It most likely will, but is it really needed? I would like the hood but for now, I am glad I have my 06 SRT8.
The Magnum SRT8 is a great car, but the facelift, in my opinion, did not make it better:
It looks less agressive, less bold, less massive, less cool! The front was much more mean and perfect before. I mean that on every detail except the scooped hood which is the only thing that is nice.
Else let the car look a bit japaneese. The last version looked much more american.
The interiour can have many improvements but I did not see a lot yet. I think they changed not a lot and thoose seem not to be very important.
Now I ordered my 2006 and am very glad to get that one. It will be nice, when drivers see that face in their mirror fastly apporaching…
Why change the front?!!!!!!!!!The hood scoop is sweet but the car lost a lot of its AMERICAN look. Put back the old grill & headlights but keep the hood scoop. The srt-8 is sick don’t mess with a great thing.
much nicer look.i have no complains about the interior, why some people do??????this cars are great from top to bottom.(300,magnum,charger,cherokee)i love them all. This face looks very chargerish!!Great evolution.

[...] Meet the face of the refreshed 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8. Compared to the current Magnum SRT8, you can definitely notice the difference. The new hood scoop jumps out right away – currently only the Charger SRT8 sports a scoop. The lower fascia is also revised, and looks better IMHO. Supposedly the taillights are to be updated as well.
