I think it combines distinctive styling (for the segment) and the best features from a number of other cars in a way Ford hasn't done since the original Taurus.

I haven't found a single post anywhere in support of the name. But I'm not crazy about Fairlane, either. The best suggestion I've read so far was over at BlueOvalForums, where someone suggested Galaxie, another old Ford name. I can see this thing as a "Galaxie" or a "Galaxy." (Ford used the former spelling in the U.S. back in the 1960s, and currently uses the latter for its European minivan.)
