I always wondered about the "lesser" versions of >$50k cars.

If you're already spending this kind of dough, I can't believe you'd want the non-decked-out version or give a rat's posterior about a few MPG.

But then again, my financial situation is not one where I can put myself in the (likely fancy and comfortable) shoes of someone shopping in this market.

(I don't have anything to add, just wanted to say that...)

Hey Nick,

If I had to do it all over again, I would still take the V-8. Don't want DSG in this car, don't care about the diff because I can already put the tail out, 3G MMI would be interesting.

High-revving V8s are going to be a thing of the past. Enjoy them while you can.

Interesting.

Here's hoping the upcoming S4 and re-engined S5 are a little more palatable.

Good Read Jack. Everyone ( I use this loosely) is raving about this engine but for some reason the V8 still grabs me more. People point to the fact that in S4 or S5 trim the V6 is quicker then the 8, will handle better, more tunable (tuners are getting 70-100 more HP with just an ECU reflash) and more fuel efficient, not to mention cheaper with the GG Tax omitted now. That the V6 is the hands down winner and the only thing one will miss is the V8 grunt.

I find myself in this same question...the S5 is on a very short 3 or 4 car list come next spring summer for me to pick up...and right then one will have the choice of the V6"T" S5 or V8 S5...so which would you chose in the S5 if you could do it over again? Yes the V6 "T" will have all I mentioned above as well as S-Tronic, the new 3G MMI, trick diff's etc....but there is still a big draw to a proper front engined V8 and that grunt....

Wut say joo?
