Watch the Nissan DeltaWing Get Flipped by a GTC Porsche at Road Atlanta

We’re very sad that we aren’t going to be at Road Atlanta this year for Petit Le Mans, but that isn’t keeping us from paying close attention to the on-track events going on during the week.  Yesterday was a test session for all the ALMS cars and unfortunately the Nissan DeltaWing was hit by a GTC car while coming down into turn 12, causing it to roll over.  Nissan has released the footage of the incident and really shows the dangers of multi-class racing.  We’re hearing that the DeltaWing team has pulled an all-nighter and is expected to have the car back on track later today.

This incident will continue to occur due to this car's shape. Yes, it's efficient and different, but people can't seem to notice the 1 problem that has caused it to be wrecked already in no less than 2 competitive occasions in 2 competitive outings. If you look in a rearview mirror and see a full width car (remember, the car is black. Then you glance to the side and see a car,you assume you have the room all the way up to the side of the car. When the car has 2 widths, and you can only see the front narrow width, and move to occupy that space,, until you realize it's the damn delta wing and you've hit the back of it already. Yeah,, that's the issue. Technically is the car fast, and efficient, yes,, but it's a total danger on the track!!

No clue how the injured driver is alive. His head should have been taken! Look at how it is being dragged across the pavement.
