The Infineon Raceway garages show the calm before the storm. The ChumpCar World Series race will begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. officially kicking off the 2010 crap-can racing season. Race teams from all over the West Coast have decended on Infineon to try battle it out on the historic racetrack. Infineon has been home to such racing series as NASCAR, IndyCar, American Le Mans Series and now it will be home to the infamous ChumpCar, endurance racing for $500 cars. Yes, that is Danika Patrick standing next to the Speed Sport Life entry.
Some of the cars that are entered in the race range from very serious to “probably will break down backing out of the garage.” The 3rd generation Camaro pictured above comes complete with a V6 engine and a leaky radiator.
The boys from “Free Range Racing” brought out their beat to hell (yet very fast) MR2. It has some pretty interesting duct work for the radiator (somebody obviously got a D in shop class).
The girls from RaceyDiva.com “Lug Your Own Nuts” are trying to do two things at this race. One, prove girls can get it done on the race track. And 2, prove that the white lettered B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A tires can actually win a race (I think the chances of completing task 1, is probably going to hindered by task 2). However, I was told that when they bought the four B.F. Goodrich tires from Les Shwab they were treated to a free case of beef jerky.
Race coverage will continue all weekend at Speed Sport Life, tune in to check it out.
