The Speed:Sport:Life team has arrived at Road Atlanta and what a day Thursday was for American Le Mans and the Porsche GT3 Challenge cars.

In the American Le Mans / ILMC series, Simon Pagenaud and Peugeot Sport set the fastest time during the last lap of the 2-hour night practice session with a lap of 1:09.027.

Pagenaud’s lap time was only 0.080 seconds faster than the time set by Romain Dumas in the #1 Audi R18 TDI.  The top three cars were all within 0.159 seconds of one another which means qualifying today will be very interesting to watch.

In LMP2, Jean-Karl Vernay set the fastest time of 1:13.864 in the SIgnatech Nissan’s ORECA, while BMW Motorsports set the fastest time of 1:19.747 in GTE Pro in the BMW M3 GT of Augusto Farfus.

Michael Mills' GT3 Cup Challenge Car

Thursday also brought the first race of two for the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge at Road Atlanta.  Carlos Kauffman won the race overall in his Platinum Class GT3 Cup car marking his first victory in the series.

In the Gold class, Speed:Sport:Life’s very own Michael Mills took home the win after his very first try in the series.  Mills had hoped to run a full season in GT3 Challenge, but circumstances worked to prevent that from happening.  Mills’ was determined to make one race this year and with help from TaxMasters Racing and Effort Racing, Mills had his opportunity.

We’re proud of Michael for winning on his first attempt and hope to have him out on a full season ride soon.  The second race of the GT3 Challenge happens today at Road Atlanta.
