The turbocharged Veloster has pretty much been a given since the base car debuted a year ago. At best, Hyundai could do was shoot par. And they have. 201 hp, 195lb-ft, 2800lbs, and yes, it’s still a twist beam rear end.

Hyundai went out of their way to mark the GTI as a competitor, citing Volkswagen’s published power and weight figures and declaring the Veloster its better in power-weight. While reality may not agree, there’s something to said for Hyundai’s bluster. What that is, I leave entirely up to you. And why matte paint? Because race production car.
