The Chevrolet Suburban has been the gold standard in SUVs since its introduction in 1935. The Suburban is the longest-lasting moniker in American automotive history. Now in its 12th generation, Chevrolet has introduced a few upgrades for the 2025 Suburban lineup. These upgrades improve on what is already one of the best people and stuff haulers on the market.
The refreshed 2025 Chevy Suburban features subtle exterior styling changes but significant interior updates. Unlike some recent vehicle refreshes, every change Chevy has made in the Suburban is an improvement over the prior model. Not only have they made the Suburban look better, but they’ve also upgraded the tech and screen layouts without compromising on the physical controls we’ve grown to love in the Suburban (and Tahoe).
On the exterior of the 2025 Suburban, Chevrolet has given it a new front-end design, featuring a new front fascia with bolder lighting styling. The DRLs are more integrated and thinner, giving the front lighting elements a more prominent appearance. High Country and Premier models also come standard with welcome and walk-away lighting.
New wheel designs are also available on the High Country and RST models. The High Country trim models, like our tester, focus on a sport-luxury theme with a balance of black and Galvano chrome trim.
Anyone who has read my recent GM reviews knows I’m a massive fan of the design direction they’ve taken with their interiors. The refreshed 2025 Chevy Suburban features a new interior, which brings it more in line with the other SUVs and trucks in the brand’s lineup. I love that Chevy has emphasized retaining all the physical controls while also seamlessly incorporating the latest technology.
The Suburban’s center display is a 17.7-inch high-resolution touchscreen that sits adjacent to an 11.0-inch driver information cluster. The center display is the same as that found in the new Chevy Traverse. Below the central stack are neatly placed HVAC vents, buttons, and knobs for climate control. A volume knob is present both on the redesigned steering wheel and the center screen bezel.
The Suburban also gets a redesigned center console with more storage options and a wireless charging pad.
The 2025 Suburban interior is absolutely gorgeous in person and feels upscale. Best of all, Chevy has minimized the high-gloss plastic in high-touch areas. I’d still prefer to see less of it in the space between the center display and driver cluster, but as far as modern vehicles go, it’s not bad.
The rest of the 2025 Suburban’s interior is equally as nice as the front seats. The High Country models, like my tester, feature genuine wood trim and perforated leather seats with wingtip perforated leather. A High Country badge is displayed on the passenger side of the dashboard, as well as embroidered on the front seat headrests.
The 2025 Chevy Suburban features a revised Duramax 3.0L inline-six-cylinder turbodiesel engine paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Power is increased by 10% to 305 horsepower, while torque is increased by 7.6% to a generous 495 lb-ft. Fuel economy is excellent for a vehicle of this size, thanks to the miserly diesel engine. I average 20.7 mpg in my week of mixed driving.
This increase is achieved through a retuned turbo, along with higher-flow fuel injectors, revised pistons with improved oil cooling, and Active Thermal Management. The engine also features new sound absorption materials and an updated air intake, which reduce NVH while maintaining peak performance.
A 6.2L V8 is also available and is standard on the High Country. The maximum towing capacity for the Suburban is rated at 8,200 pounds, regardless of engine choice.
Ride and handling on the 2025 Chevy Suburban have been refined, thanks to an updated multilink rear suspension and steering recalibration. Adaptive air ride suspension is available on the High Country and Z71 trims, as well as the RST models. The Suburban will automatically reduce ride height at speed to improve aerodynamics. The suspension can also be lowered or raised by the driver to help reduce entry and exit height or gain additional ground clearance.
The Chevy Suburban is one of those rare vehicles that every generation has a family story about. Everyone knows someone who has been on a road trip in one, and the Suburban remains one of the best vehicles for covering miles while having the family in tow in complete comfort. Chevy has taken an already excellent vehicle and made it even better with the 2025 refresh.
While the 2025 Suburban High Country is a phenomenal SUV, there is a bit of sticker shock that must be overcome when approaching a fully loaded High Country model like my tester. A High Country with the Duramax engine starts at $87,435, including a $2,195 destination charge. There aren’t many options to choose from with the High Country, but additional options can bring the total price pretty close to the six-figure mark. It’s a big price, but it’s a LOT of value for the kind of vehicle the Suburban High Country is.
