Porsche Announces New 911 GT3 RSR for 2012 Race Season

Porsche today announced the new 911 GT3 RSR for the 2012 Race season.  The 911 GT3 RSR is Porsche Motorsport’s top model of customer race vehicles and heads into the 2012 season with some fairly significant changes.  Width has been increased by 48mm and has been built to conform with the new A.C.O. “LM” GTE regulations.

The new 911 GT3 RSR is powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine which produces 460 horsepower and is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox.  The rear wheels have been widened to 310mm and the diameter of the front wheels has been increased by 30mm to 680mm.

The nose and rear panels have been adapted to the updated flared front and rear wheel arches that put more emphasis on aerodynamics.  The air intake system has been updated as well with openings in the rear side sections rather than the scoop on the engine hood as found on the outgoing model.

The new 911 GT3 RSR is compliant with Le Mans 24 Hours, FIA World Endurance Championship, Le Mans Series, American Le Mans Series as well as the International GT Open rule books.

The new 911 GT3 RSR will be delivered to customers starting in January 2012 with a selling price of 498,000 euro.  Falken racing has already announced they will be taking delivery of the new 911 GT3 RSR and we expect that Flying Lizard and the other big GT teams currently running 911 GT3 RSRs will follow suit.   Look for the U.S. debut of the new 911 GT3 RSR at Winter Testing sessions at Sebring with the race debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring to be held on March 17, 2012.
