Endurance racing—live—is unlike anything else I have ever experienced. My knowledge of motorsport began and ended with Formula 1. It wasn’t until Circuit of the Americas started being built that I began paying attention and learning about other motorsport series. First it was Grand-Am, then MotoGP, and of course the Australian V8 Supercars. Next on my list? American Le Mans Series and World Endurance Championship. I watched this year’s 12 hours of Sebring and 24 hours of Le Mans with serious interest for the first time. I have spent time looking things up and asking questions on Twitter. But it wasn’t until the 6 hours of Circuit of the Americas that I truly grasped just how special these two series really are.
We’ve got live coverage of the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans digital grid. We’ve aggregated all the teams, drivers, and commentary into one handy pane of glass for you to keep up with the race. We’ll be live with our commentary starting the morning of the race, but we’ve started this feed to catch up with the media and posts from Le Mans. Enjoy!
In recent times, Le Mans has become more of a 24 hour sprint race rather than just a 24 hour endurance race with teams becoming more and more competitive. Every single aspect of the race, from each lap to each pit stop can mean minutes lost or gained at the end of the 24 hours. Celebrating it’s 90th anniversary (81st running) this year, Le Mans has become a sight to behold and for us at least, remains the absolute best motorsport event in the world. We’ve been fortunate to attend the race in person in past years, but even watching it on TV gives us chills. The sounds of the cars doing 200+ on the Mulsanne straight, the lights of the ferris wheel, and the feeling as day turns to night turns to day again. We live for this weekend.
